Bugga is out of Karana Oz (A3F – 13867 – 05 KH31) sired by Karana Digby (48307 JH1J) on her first litter. We wanted Bug so that we could increase the Karana line in our kennel as we liked the strong working background Kevin Howell has put in his Karana line. The Karana stud includes dogs that can perform under the trying weather and terrain conditions of west central New South Wales in Australia.
We have observed many of Kevin and Kay’s Karana dogs working in the heavily wooded sections of their station, exhibiting huge casts into the dense cover found on the hill country of their property. We have also watched the dogs work tirelessly at the Forbes sheep sales over numerous years and have come to realize that many of the close to 80 dogs working at the sale on any given Tuesday relate back to the Howell’s stud.
Bug has turned out to be one of the easiest dogs we have ever had the pleasure to train and work, yet exhibits a lot of power when the need arises. Her desire to please is one of her strongest traits and, like her parents, her personality is one you can’t help but love. Between Digby and Oz, there are 5 Karana dogs in their pedigrees that have won the National Kelpie Championships. Digby is a full brother to Karana Abba II, who has two National Championships and many many other impressive wins.
Bug produced three excellent litters, but then had to be spayed for medical reasons. We have two of her offspring at our ranch, Burradoo Nugget (sired by Burkelodge Becker) and Burradoo Gilly (sired by Burradoo Luc). Bug’s working strength has put her in our every day working string, with each outing adding to her knowledge and power. Bug has the size and build we desire. Because of Bug’s outstanding example, we have three other Digby x Oz kelpies (Deuce, Ozzie and Ariat).
